Sixty years of British design celebrated in an exhibition of dresses designed by classic and contemporary talent.

Stunning ballgowns, evening dresses from glamorous red carpet events, and mesmerizing catwalk designs will display the strength of British design. The dresses featured have been designed for the cosmopolitan and aristocratic scene, including opening nights, exclusive parties, state events and royal balls.

These timeless pieces by renowned couturiers such as Victor Stiebel, Zandra Rhodes, Hussein Chalayan and Jonathan Saunders, will contribute to an evolution of design. They will be accompanied by dresses fresh from the shows of Alexander MCQueen, Giles Deacon, Erdem and Jenny Packham.

A royal selection will also be exhibited including a Norman Hartnell gown for Elizabeth the Queen Mother and a Catherine Walker ‘Elvis Dress’ for Princess Diana, amongst other contemporary royal pieces. The dresses have not only been designed by notable names, but worn by them as well including Elizabeth Hurley, Bianca Jagger and Sandra Bullock of the acting and celebrity list. Another highlight will be the dazzling metallic leather design by Gareth Pugh.

The special selection of evening wear from V&A’s collection will be showcased in the recently renovated Fashion Galleries; 60 designs from several decades will be displayed across two floors.
