The historical motor-racing event, known for testing skill and innovation, returns to Polermo for 2012

This year’s Classic event of the Eco Targa Florio will see drivers journey through the iconic circuito delle Modonie, as well as some of the Giro di Sicilia. Classic models inextricably linked to the tradition of the Targa Floria will participate in the event over three days and two nights along these routes. Cars manufactured from the turn of the 20th century up to 1977 will be entered into the competition, however, those from the 70s will take priority in the selection, in honour of the race’s closing year.

The world’s oldest and one of the most renowned motor races, was established and supported by Polermo businessman, Vincenzo Florio who wanted to expand the potential of the innovative technology that was the car. Founded in 1906, The Targo Florio was an extensive race of a notorious but legendary route, approximately 146 kilometres, suited to those experts in rallying or experts in the local area. Due to the immense difficulty of the narrow and mountainous course, the event gave rise to the motor racing heros and celebrated racing cars who succeeded. The Targa Florio subsequently became a critical performance test for developing models.

The MAC Group has developed the Targa Florio as an international project, enlisting the support of leading car brands, and incorporating an enivironmentally friendly ethos to the event. The re-launch  of the Targa Floria classic event promises to combine history with the endearing landscape and cultural atmosphere of Sicily.
