Chris Beetles Fine Photographs is proud to present the first major UK exhibition of France's most renowned living photographer, Lucien Clergue.

Having already had major retrospectives around the globe, including at New York's prestigious Museum of Modern Art, Chris Beetles Fine Photographs now aims to introduce Clergue's work to a British audience and cement his reputation as one of the 20th century's most important photographers.

Clergue became well-known as a young photographer during the 1950s, and counted John Cocteau and Pablo Picasso among his close friends, both of whom supported his work from the start. Clergue's archive spans a huge majority of subjects, but there are three main themes which continue to arise - female nudes, bullfighting and Pablo Picasso and his circle. Combining 'a sublte artistic sensibility with the heat and sensuality of his Mediterranean upbringing', Lucien Clergue was and continues to be one of Europe's most influential photographers.
