After a recent exhibition of Vivienne Westwood shoes, The Bowes Museum is to show a selection of Stephen Jones’ fabulous hats.

Known as one of the most original milliners of our time Jones has been described as the “the maker of the most beautiful hats in the world” by Italian Vogue’s Anna Piaggi. With an eclectic client list ranging from the late Princess of Wales to Dita Von Teese, his timeless designs often reflect on couture history whilst always remaining contemporary.

Jones’ creations can be seen on the catwalks of Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood and most famously at Dior’s high profile couture shows during John Galliano’s tenure as Creative Director. He has also designed the headpieces for a number of artists and performers such as Kylie Minogue, Mick Jagger and Marilyn Manson.

With his works represented in the permanent collections of museums all over the world such as the V&A in London and The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York this exhibition is unique in its monographic focus on Jones, his career and creations.
