Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
Amazing vintage 1920s black silk chiffon and rose pink beaded Art Deco flapper dress. The beaded edged, scalloped sides split on each side to allow movement for dancing. The incredible hand beaded design suggests a fleur de lisse art deco fan hybrid.
Near perfect condition with just a little detachment between the two layers of chiffon on the neckline and a few missing beads on the hemline.
Fashion in the 1920s was a revolution as women rebelled against society's strict rules and revelled in their new-found equality with men. Hemlines reached the knees and clothes became less form-fitting, giving a more androgynous look. The 'flapper dress', with its drop waist and slightly loose fitt, allowed women to dance freely as was the passion of the time, yet remain glamorous, embellished with rhinestones, beads and sequins.
Note: The measurements for flapper dresses must take into consideration the slouchiness and draping of the style and so can also be worn by smaller women.
