£135.00 (approx. $213.55)

Lovely vintage 1950s teal felt hat with grey, black and white feather trim and large single feather detail. An elegant 1950s hat with a rich felt in teal and delicate feather trim which subtly blends into the material. The additional feather is stiff with a strong arrow shaped point. Dramatic and luxurious.

Hats have historically been a staple of women's fashion, from the extravagant bonnets of the 18th century to the cloche hats of the 1920s. This versatile accessory has adapted with the times and varied in shape, size, colour and adornments. In the 1920s feathers exploded onto the hat scene with the birth of the flapper era. The 1940s and World War II brought khaki and olive green, as well as patriotic reds and blues to the forefront of hat design.

Due to rationing wartime fashion became more utilitarian, yet the hat continued to play an important role in women's fashion. Women might have been wearing last year's dress, but if their hat was on-trend they were always up-to-date. To this day hats can be worn as a symbol of style status.
