Piet Zwart worked for Bruynzeel as an industrial designer. He was the first Dutch designer to design a kitchen for mass production in 1937.

As well as architecture and interior design, Piet Zwart worked as a photographer and typographer. A highly artistic and progressive designer, Zwart was named "Designer of the Century" by the Association of Dutch Designers in 2000.
