This is an original US 'insert' film poster for the Hitchcock thriller 'Dial M for Murder' (1954), starring Ray Milland as Tony Wendice, Grace Kelly as Margot Mary Wendice and Robert Cummings playing Mark Halliday. The movie was ranked as the ninth best film in the mystery genre by the American Film Institute.
Inserts were displayed in the lobbies of American cinemas during the film's original release in 1954 to help promote the film.
The poster features stunning artwork by renowned film poster designer Bill Gold. The designer has made a clear decision to emphasise the disturbing content of the film as opposed to the fame and glamour of Grace Kelly. The poster captures the suspense of the movie, with Kelly's hand outstretched towards the viewer to emphasise her character's desperation.
This actual copy was recently exhibited as part of the prestigious and much-publicised 'Grace Kelly: Style Icon' exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
