Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
This is an original release British film poster for the Disney classic 'Lady And The Tramp' (1955).
The poster size is called a 'British Quad', and is still today the standard size for British posters. As part of a film's international advertising campaign, Hollywood studios would send images such as photographic stills of scenes from the movie to thier international distributors.
For example, they would send a photo taken during the film's production to thier British distributor. The distributor would give these images to British artists, who would then design a poster to be sent to cinemas in that nation for promotional use.
The artwork in this poster centres on the romance between and the film's lead canine couple. The campaign tries to emphasise that this is Disney's 'happiest' film, as many of his animated classics before had a darker, sinister side. This poster could be thought of as the studio's first 'feel good' movie, which would become the template for Disney films from then on.
