Vintage 1960s 'Reply' drafting table/desk by Wim Rietveld.
Dutch furniture designer Wim Rietveld was the son of the famous architect and cabinetmaker Gerrit Rietveld.
Due to a lack of materials and machinery after World War II, Wim Rietveld developed solid and simple industrial furniture in its purest form, and later received the 'Signe D'Or' award in Brussels during the 1950s for his 'Reply' drafting-table.
The elegantly restrained design of the table, with its sharp angled 'compass point' legs, is unquestionably inspired by the work of French industrial designer Jean Prouve. This example, produced by the Dutch furniture makers 'Ahrend de Cirkel' in the 1960s, is a perfect example of the very delicate and stylish forms that can be created using robust, industrial materials.
