1964 Pierre Boulle 'Monkey Planet' rare First UK Edition book.
A first edition, first printing of 'Monkey Planet' published by Secker and Warburg in 1964. A near fine book without inscription (one small bump to the bottom edge and one or two light stains to the page block) in a near fine unclipped wrapper showing the correct price of 15s. The usual light fading to the spine without fading the pink lettering. A very nice copy of a rare title.
'Monkey Planet' by Pierre Boulle tells the story of Ulysse Mérou, Arthur Levain and Professor Antelle, a genius scientist who invented a spaceship that could travel at nearly the speed of light. In 2500 the trio set sail to explore outer space. They discover a distant Earth-like planet inhabited by human-like apes.
The book was the inspiration for the 1968 film adaptation 'Planet of the Apes' starring Charlton Heston, the 1970s TV series, the 2001 remake of the original film starring Mark Wahlberg and the 2011 box office hit 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' starring James Franco.
