Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
Left Hand Drive, Factory Air Conditioning.
One of Only Seventeen Cars Produced.
Chassis Number: DB5/2134/L Engine Number: 400/2137/V
Aston Martin launched the new DB5 model in 1963 with a larger 4.0 litre engine using triple SU carburettors as standard equipment, resulting in a nearly 20% increase in horsepower. Not merely an evolution of the previous model the DB4, The DB5 boasted many refinements, such as twin fuel fillers, electric windows as standard and a more highly tuned exhaust system. After the initial start of production, the ZF five-speed gearbox became standard, giving the car longer legs for motorway driving.
The DB5 "Vantage", a high performance variant was later introduced; the upgraded specification featured a high compression head, altered cam timing and three dual-throat, side-draft Weber carburettors, effectively creating a mixing chamber for each cylinder. Output rose to 314 BHP. Known as the "GT engine" when developed for the first prototype Vantage, it stepped confidently into the shoes of its spiritual predecessor, the venerated DB4 GT, the previous Aston model to feature massive Weber carburetion.
Of the 17 left hand drive "Vantage Specification" DB5's manufactured, we understand that # DB5/2134/L is one of only 10 cars which were ever built with the ultra-rare and desirable specification of factory air conditioning (known as the Normalair option), limited slip differential, chrome wire road wheels and a power aerial. A copy of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirming original production is supplied in the chassis file together with a copy of the factory build sheet.
Our car was supplied new in April 1965 through Greg Garrison in California, USA. The car spent most of its life in the USA until being returned to England for a thorough restoration by a highly respected UK Aston Martin specialist in 1994, the car was then returned to the USA and entered in various Concours events where the DB5 achieved eight notable first place wins at:
1995 AMOC, Lime Rock
Summit Point Concours
British Cars Concours, Stowe
British Day, Chestnut Hill
1996 AMOC, Lime Rock
1997 AMOC, Lime Rock
2001 Greenwich Invitational Concours AMOC, Lime Rock
2002 Radnor Invitational Concours
Now presented in absolutely stunning condition, recently serviced and MOT tested. We believe this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire such a rare and exclusive left hand drive DB5 Vantage with factory fitted air conditioning; with a total of only seventeen Left Hand Drive cars ever produced, this most iconic model is more exclusive than a DB4GT, at half the price !
