The E Pira aim is to blend the intense power of the Barolo with more approachable and delicate characteristics. Under the ardent management of Chiara Boschis, the wine benefits from the strictest growth and production including shortened maceration, malolactic fermentation (conversion to a softer acid), and special barrique ageing.

The E Pira Barolos are produced exclusively from the estate's vineyards, contained within parts of Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo and Via Nuovo, the latter quite renowned for the Barolo's Nebbiolo grape. In their vineyards, the fruit is farmed organically before being meticulously selected for production. The grapes are processed with practically scientific precision, but with light handling. The Barolo is placed in lightly toasted French oak barriques for at least two years, and aged in bottle one year before release.

The 1971 Barolo E Pira, once opened there are pungent aromas of the Italian countryside with hints of truffle, dried figs, flowers and a fresh earthy smell. The nose finds a depth with deep, sweet cherry and dark chocolate tones, until the taste reveals a warm fruity flavour. It finishes on a refreshing herby note, with a somewhat of a pleasantly light acidity. This is a mature wine, only requiring a few more hours in the decanter before consuming.
