Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
1974 Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco.
The Barbaresco wine region in the Italian northwest is one of the most prominent in the country. It holds historical significance being from ancient origin and by producing wine used to celebrate a historical military victory. This 1974 vintage has its own place in history as the carefully crafted, ultimate expression from the Produttori of that year.
The Barbaresco's Nebbiolo grape grows in a pleasantly warm, dry and mild climate, resulting in a less tannic (less bitter and acidic) wine. Instead the fruit is known for its complex variety of flavours, in this case producing a wine with aromas of potpourri, intense violets, white truffles and a plethora of fruit and spice notes.
The lovingly hand-picked grapes ferment in steel vats for two to three weeks, are racked and placed in vats until around the next year's late summer harvest, aged barrels for up to two years and rested before its debut six months hence. The 1974 Produttori del Barbaresco has been maturing for nearly forty years, allowing the flavours to bloom and develop a stunningly smooth finish.
