The Rolex Oyster, first manufactured in 1926, was the first waterproof and dustproof wristwatch in the world whilst still offering precision. On 7th October 1927, Mercedes Gleitze swam the English Channel wearing a Rolex Oyster, which was still functioning after 15 hours in the water, much to the amazement of the public. Later in 1931, the Oyster was fitted with the world's first self-winding mechanism with a Perpetual rotor.
