Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
1980s Issey Miyake pleated black and white dress. Great white abstract design printed on dress. Button detail at the collar.
Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake launched his own house in 1971. With a focus on creativity and technology, Miyake's designs were distinctly avant-garde.
It was Miyake who pioneered new techniques of pleating in the late 1980s, leading to the method of sandwiching fabric between sheets of paper and heat pressing to produce his Pleats Please line. This kind of innovation was typical of Miyake's designs.
