Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
1980s vintage Jean Paul Gaultier two piece suit. Made out of lightweight black linen blend. Knee-length jacket is single breasted, has two large hip patch pockets, single front snap closure, and button cuff. Trousers have side metal zip, pleated front, and wide leg that is slightly tapered. Both pieces are unlined.
Jean Paul Gaultier, the original 'enfant terrible' of fashion, began his career working for Pierre Cardin and Jean Patou in the early 1970s. When he began designing under his own name from 1976, his pieces moved away from haute couture finesse to a raw sensibility more like that found on the fashionable streets of London. Gaultier was the first designer to introduce underwear as outerwear, as seen in the iconic 'conical bra' costume he created for Madonna's Blond Ambition tour.
