Description
1980s Stanley Hagler necklace featuring two rows of ruby glass beads with an intricate jewelled floral cluster. The necklace has an adjustable length. Signed Stanley Hagler N.Y.C. on the reverse, allowing for the piece to be dated post 1983. The relocation of the campany prompted the addition of N.Y.C. to the name to illustrate the connection between Hagler's work and New York City.
Vintage Seekers says
After working as a business advisor to Miriam Haskell in the late 1940s, Stanley Hagler established his eponymous company in 1953. Greatly influenced by both Frank Hess' designs and Haskell's themes, his work was closely followed and praised by Vogue. Hagler used the highest quality materials and favoured Swarovski crystals, seed pearls and Murano glass.
Often worn by Wallis Simpson, Hagler is known for his intricate, floral motifs as seen in this necklace. Hagler was exacting in the components used in his jewellery be they hand blown Murano glass stones or Swarovski. Exemplary in his attention to detail and quality of his offerings, he designed for New York's fashion weeks and in 1968 won the Swarovski sponsored "Great Designs in Jewellery" award for the first of 11 times.
