1981 Salman Rushdie Midnight's Children, rare first edition book.
A first edition copy published by Cape in 1981. A near fine book with one neat gift inscription to the ffep (Front Free end paper)in a very good unclipped wrapper which is faded to the spine and some creasing to folds. Complete with the Winner of the Booker Prize wrap-around band which is worn and has loss. An attractive copy with the rare band.
'Midnight's Children' by Salman Rushdie is the immersive fiction narrative of Saleem Sinai, whose birth at midnight on August 15th 1947 coincides exactly with the time of India's independence. Saleem develops telepathic powers, connecting him with others born as midnight's children, and throughout the course of life he is both blessed and cursed. As his birth marks the birth of a nation so too is his life intertwined with the evolution of modern India.
