Description
A first edition, first printing published by Jonathan Cape in 1981. A fine book (one minute spot to the bottom of the front-free end-paper) - a superb example of the book with the original 'rough cut' pages - no inscriptions, no marks or stains. Signed without dedication to the title page by the author and the dust wrapper artist, Bill Botten.
In a near fine wrapper with the usual sunning (light sunning) to the spine and a little wear to the top of the rear end-flap.
Comes complete with the rare wrap-around band announcing the book to be the 'Winner of the 1981 £10,000 Booker McConnell Prize for Fiction'. The band has seen better days and has loss to the ends, but is a nice addition to this signed book.
Rare signed by the author and illustrator in fine condition and with the band.
Vintage Seekers says
Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie is the immersive fiction narrative of Saleem Sinai, whose birth at midnight on August 15th 1947 coincides exactly with the time of India's independence. Saleem develops telepathic powers, connecting him with others born as midnight's children, and throughout the course of life he is both blessed and cursed. As his birth marks the birth of a nation so too is his life intertwined with the evolution of modern India.
