Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
The Quinta do Vesuvio 1997 has a dark and intense purple colour with a ripeness on the nose and a rich, full bodied palate.
Located in the Douro Superior, Quinta do Vesuvio is a legendary property, identified as far back as the 16th Century. In the 19th Century under Dona Antónia Ferreira the Vesuvio wines gained an extraordinary reputation. In 1989 the Symington family acquired and invested in the estate, re-planting and expanding the vineyards to 141 hectares (of a 325 ha estate). The only style of Port made from this Quinta is Vintage Port, and then only in years that meet stringent quality requirements, and all wines are 100% treaded by foot in granite lagares. The wines are very concentrated and powerful, with very ripe black fruit flavours.
"Very fine nose. Lovely fruit. Sophisticated and complex. Very classy. Fullish. Intense. Very ripe and concentrated. ... Very very long and lovely. This is really fine. From 2010. Score: 18/20" - Clive Coates, The Vine, 2011
"A delicious, forward, dark saturated ruby/purple-colored port, this 1997 reveals copious quantities of jammy, grapy, black fruit flavors intermixed with earth and spice, full body, and silky tannin. It should drink well soon, but last for two decades. Score: 90/100" - Robert Parker, 2000
