Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
2007 Comtes Lafon Meursault 'Charmes' is a refined wine with unrestrained energy.
Dominique Lafon is the leading producer in Meursault, with some of the deepest and coldest cellars in Burgundy. His vineyards are run on a biodynamic basis with no use of herbicides or chemical sprays, and all the wines are barrel-fermented, using new oak for the 1er Crus upwards. There is only one racking after the malolactic and the wines are bottled nearly two years after the vintage, one of the latest bottlings in Burgundy. The result is an exceptional white wine with huge power, complexity and total harmony.
"Not surprisingly, this is slightly riper but much more complex with a nose that remains admirably pure, refined and almost airy with orchard fruit and lemon zest notes introducing full but fine flavours brimming with dry extract and good power, all wrapped in a palate staining finish brimming with an underlying energy. I very much like the level of extract as it completely buffers the firm acid spine and confers a seductively sappy texture to the dry finish." Allen Meadows, burghound.com, 2010
