2007 Montrose is a magnificently dense and opulent wine.
Château Montrose produces some of the most aged wines in the Medoc, and is renowned in St.Estéphe. Montrose belonged to Jean-Louis Charmolue between 1962 and 2006, when he sold it to Martin and Olivier Bouygues, who own a construction firm just east of the appellation. The estuary ensures a microclimate that protects the vineyard against frost, and the south-east facing clay-gravel soils are advantageous.
Château Montrose wines tend to harbor immense potential, turning a certain austerity into a powerful wine of incomparable delicacy.
"One of the stars of the vintage, the 2007 Montrose boasts a deep blue/purple colour as well as a sweet bouquet of crème de cassis, crushed rocks, and spring flowers. Dense and opulent with silky tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, a long finish, and no hard edges, this beauty should drink well for 15+ years." 91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 2010
