Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
A stunning example of 1920s Parisian flapper elegance, this vintage black silk chiffon dress is exquisitely embellished with long art deco panels of gold metallic threads and tiny silver metallic beads. The scalloped cape hanging down the back adds extra drama for an entrance to remember.
There are a few frailities in the trim where the beads are missing but they seem to be symmetrical in the fact that they are missing on the same places on both sides. There are also a few places where the back to forth metallic threads have come loose but extremely easy to repair. Also some weakness in the side closure which is not evident on wear. Overall the condition is excellent and can be worn with care.
Fashion in the 1920s was a revolution as women rebelled against society's strict rules and revelled in their new-found equality with men. Hemlines reached the knees and clothes became less form-fitting, giving a more androgynous look. The 'flapper dress', with its drop waist and slightly loose fitt, allowed women to dance freely as was the passion of the time, yet remain glamorous, embellished with rhinestones, beads and sequins.
