Details

1959 Ian Fleming "Goldfinger" rare UK First Edition vintage book, signed by three Bond girls. Published by Jonathan Cape, 1959. The book is in very good condition with just a little slanting. One small name to the front free end-paper (the blank page at the front of the book). The dust wrapper is very good with browning to the spine. Some professional reinforcement to the inside of the wrapper's spine. The spine has a touch of small v-shaped loss to the corners and extremities. Faint circular stain to the front panel and some light staining to the rear panel - the price has been clipped off. This is a rare copy and is in good condition for its age.

In Context

"Goldfinger" by Ian Fleming was the seventh book in the James Bond series, in which Bond is pitted against Auric Goldfinger, the world's cleverest, cruellest criminal who plans to obliterate the world economy. Goldfinger was adapted for the 1964 film starring Sean Connery as James Bond. This copy benefits from being triple signed by the three Bond girls who featured in the 1964 motion picture: Honor Blackman, who famously played the role of 'Pussy Galore' in the film; Tania Mallett, who played Tilly Masterson and the 'Golden Girl', Shirley Eaton, who played Jill Masterson.

Rare and first edition books are highly popular amongst experienced collectors and literature lovers. When a book is first released nobody knows if it is going to be a success or critically acclaimed so first edition books would be released in a small print run making them very rare and collectible today. Early books by famous authors can gain thousands at auction. A book that is not a first edition but signed by the author can also gain considerable profit depending on the volume of books signed, with a plain signature being the most profitable.

The habit of building exquisite personal libraries dates back to the Renaissance, when owning a collection of illuminated manuscripts demonstrated one's wealth, erudition and status. The rise of the internet has opened the marketplace for rare and first edition books to a wider audience. A first edition vintage book is an exceedingly good investment that will only appreciate in value if kept in good condition.
