It was in the 1950s that Nordic design really began to become more mainstream, with a style characterized by simplicity, clean lines, democratic design, natural shapes and an emphasis on functionality.

The main principle of Nordic design is - and always has been - functionality, allowing practical elements to be considered as much as aesthetics in the design process. Other defining characteristics include a defining use of light, earthy muted tones, truth to materials and minimal ornamentation.

This stunning 1950s pendant light by Itsu, is in perfect condition, uses pinholes in the top cylinder and a copper ring with diffuser which creates a stunning light effect.
