1949 advertising slip from the Marx brothers film 'Love Happy', signed by Marilyn Monroe.
Singer, model and actress, Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), is regarded as the most iconic female star that Hollywood ever produced. She starred in popular movies such as 'The Seven Year Itch' and 'Some Like It Hot', winning a Golden Globe for the latter. Plagued by illness later in life, her tragic death was a great loss to Hollywood.
Monroe's sex appeal was one of her greatest assets and landed her the role in the Marx Brothers film, 'Love Happy'. Groucho Marx recounts that while casting for the film, he asked three aspiring actresses to walk past him in a seductive manner. Whoever performed the most alluring walk would win the part; Monroe was selected.
While promoting this film, Monroe met several children at the Children's Home of Rockford, in June of 1949. Many can be seen holding promotional slips like this 3" x 7" page, signed on the reverse by Monroe in pencil.
The page is also autographed by Harpo Marx's film double, Double for Harpo. Both signatures were obtained in the lobby of the State Theatre in Rockford, Illinois. Some light wrinkling, creasing and toning, otherwise in fine condition.
