Vintage Seekers says
The International Watch Company (IWC) was founded in Schaffhausen, East Switzerland in 1868 by an American-Italian engineer and watchmaker Florentin Aristo Jones. The company retains detailed records of every watch that has left their factory since 1885, meaning that detailed information on all IWC watches can be accessed by their owners. In addition, the IWC factory is capable of repairing every watch the factory has produced since the 19th century.
In 1885, IWC demonstrated its innovative spirit in the Pallweber pocket watches, with their revolutionary digital display for hours and minutes. The end of the 19th century saw the appearance of IWC's first wristwatches featuring the 64-calibre pocket watch movement. The beginning of the 20th century saw IWC move from strength to strength making many innovative steps in watch making - today, they are highly desirable collector's pieces of rare, elegant and timeless classic design with technically advanced movement.
The Portuguese Collection of oversized watches was launched in 1940, developing an automatic rewinding mechanism which was also included in the Ingenieur Collection in 1954.
