Ossie Clark was a British fashion designer who was a major figure in the swinging sixties scene in London and the fashion industry in that era. As a result, Ossie is now extremely well renowned for his vintage designs. He has been compared to some of the 1960s fashion greats like Mary Quant and Biba, and has inspired many fashion designers such as Louis Vuitton, Anna Sui and Tom Ford.
Ossie Clark started making clothes from the age of ten, and following his graduation from the Royal College of Art in 1965, his graduation collection appeared in British Vogue. Clark shot to fame and his designs were seen on the stars of the day including Mick and Bianca Jagger, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Penelope Tree.
It was at University that he met his future wife, Celia Birtwell. Their collaborations combined Clark's feminine silhouettes with Birtwell's textiles inspired by the natural world.
Manolo Blahnik has been quoted on the subject of Clark's work saying "he created an incredible magic with the body and achieved what fashion should do - produce desire".
