1960s Pair of Finnish Side Chairs with Pirelli Belts

Pair of vintage 1960s side chairs Pala-TU-640 by Esko Pajamies and Tovio Korhonen for Merva Merivaara, Finland.

The chairs are old stock from the FinnForm collection and are never used and in perfect condition.

Metal tube frame with chromed square sections. Pirelli belts are used for the seat and back, foam rubber cushions upholstered in black skai.

The Finnish designer Esko Pajamies & the Finnish architect Toivo Korhonen collaborated on the design of the striking 'TU-640' low chair, or 'Pala' low chair in 1962. The sleek, mod design is evocative of 1960s style, while remaining perfectly able to blend into a contemporary setting. The rubber straps used for the seat and back are credited in the 'Merva Merivaara' catalogue as being manufactured by the Pirelli company.
