1969 Downhill Racer Original US One Sheet Poster

This is an original release US film poster for the sporting classic 'Downhill Racer'(1969).

The poster size is called a 'US One Sheet', and is still today the standard size for American posters. The rariety of this poster is based on the fact that only a limited print-run were produced, just enough to be sent to cinemas in America in 1969. In the forty or so years since, more of the print-run will have been destroyed than collected, giving this poster rariety and its subsequent present-day value.

The poster was designed by American poster designer Steve Frankfurt. It is the 'Style B' poster for this film. Several styles in this size were created to show different aspects of the movie.

As with all posters from this period, the piece was originally folded, but has since been conservation linen-backed, a process which flattens out the folds and removes acid from the paper, thus preserving it over time.

Downhill Racer was released in 1969 and stars Robert Redford, Gene Hackman and Camilla Sparv in this classic film depicting the cut-throat nature of the U.S. Ski Team.
