Powered by an Automatic movement, the case has a F344xxx serial and paperwork is dated 04 December 2004. The watch originated in the EU, and comes complete with box and a comprehensive 12 month warranty.

The reputation of Rolex precedes itself, being the largest single luxury watch brand in the world. Owning one of their watches is nowadays seen as something of a status symbol, even though the evolution of their design and functionality over the years is what has truly earned the brand its reputation. Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf, notable dates in Rolex's history include the introduction of a screw-down crown rendering watches waterproof in 1926, the first self-winding Rolex watch going on sale in 1931, and the creation of a specialist deep-sea diving watch (the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller) in 1971. Ian Fleming's James Bond famously wore a Rolex Oyster Perpetual throughout the series of spy novels.

Rolex first introduced the Cosmograph in 1960. The watch featured the tachymeter scale printed or engraved onto the bezel rather than the outer rim of the dial.

These watches became known as the Daytona after the racing ground at Daytona Beach, Florida. The 'exotic' dial configurations with contrasting subsidiary dials and square markers within the dials became known as the Paul Newman watches, although the exact origin of this name association is unclear.
