Vintage Seekers says
Trains were still steam-powered in Britain in the 1950s, and it was considered pointless to invest in modernising them. Prime Minister Winston Churchill was famously told that it would be a waste of money "bolstering up an obsolete form of transport". Therefore, advertising for foreign travellers was bold, colourful and designed to make the Victorian railways look modern and attractive.

"York defined by the medieval knight. Will our age be defined by a soldier? Based on the pattern of time, the answer will be yes. And our descendants will look at our soldiers as reassuringly safe, their uniforms to be collected and shown on Antiques Roadshow."
