Curating a Heritage Lifestyle
A gorgeous original and signed vintage Weiss Rhinestone Brooch, c. 1950. This large goldtone brooch is in excellent condition and measures 5.5cm across. It is a lovely example of coloured Weiss jewellery, using the highest quality Japanese faux opals and Austrian rhinestones in shades of yellow, gold and topaz. The use of the Aurora Borealis coating on some of the rhinestones in this piece dates it to the mid 1950s.
Weiss was founded in New York by jewellery designer and manufacturer Albert Weiss in 1942. The company was especially successful in the 1950s and 1960s. Their jewellery is renowned for its high standard of craftsmanship and use of prong set Austrian rhinestones of exceptional quality. Weiss jewellery has become increasingly collectible. Like many costume jewellery companies they ceased production in 1971.
